VISITATION TO THE FAITHFUL IN SCOTLAND:

Bishop Anthony, accompanied by Dame Della Edling, Chairman of Chapter, and Deacon Eric Bilton will be travelling to Scotland on Thursday, August 31st (via the Faithful in Edinburgh) and returning on Monday, September 4th. We shall be staying at Forfar in Angus, near Canon Harry Anson, and over the four days making visitations to our two Angus Missions, to Mearns and to Dundee. We look forward so very much to being again with Canon Anson (Father Harry, as we shall continue with affection to call him) and to being again North of the Border.

A separate Visitation is being made to St. Andrews in the near future. The dates this time are too near the beginning of term. Thank you to Joe Tendler, St. Andrews Guardian, for all he does and for the vital task of “passing on the student batton” to the next influx!  We really should bless Ben Duncan a thousand-fold for what he started for us at St. Andrews nearly five years ago.

On Sunday, September 3rd, the Solemnity of Saint Pius X, there will be Pontifical High Mass at Forfar during which Canon Anson will be formally installed as Vicar General for Scotland. A full report of the Visitation will, of course, be in the October Kalendar and Notes.

OUR LADY OF ABERDEEN AND SAINT ANDREW – PRAY FOR SCOTLAND!

tHREE NEW MISSIONS!!!:

We mentioned briefly last month that Mrs Jenny Edwards has founded yet another Scottish Mission for us, dedicated to Saint David of Wales. It is based at Maryton in the Kirriemuir district of Angus. Jenny, a Welsh lady, has great devotion to St. David, and has already gathered five members in the short time since July when the Mission was established. We feel that so Celtic a saint will “go down well” in Scotland! Thank you, Jenny.  Bishop Anthony looks forward so much to meeting you. The further two new Missions have come to us as a most joyful and unexpected gift from God.

SAINT DAVID OF WALES, LOUGHBOROUGH AND QUORN:

Paul Roberts, one of our supporters, who lives in the beautiful Leicestershire town of Quorn, has founded a Mission for us there which will be based  on the nearby Loughborough University from which he recently graduated as a secondary school teacher.

In fact Paul, a Welsh speaker from North Wales, is just 40 and had previously worked in London for the Guardian newspaper. He will be starting his new career in September in the Media Studies Department of the local Quorn Secondary School and we all wish him good fortune as a schoolmaster! In fact, it is thanks entirely to Paul that we have our website because he generously paid for its design. He has therefore already proved himself a generous benefactor of the Archdiocese. BUT – the new Mission’s Title!!!?? Paul was quite adamant that it be dedicated to Saint David!! The Chapter agreed. To paraphrase our dear Lady Thatcher: “This must  be positively the last Mission to Saint David – outside Wales!!”  Paul and his little band will be concentrating their efforts on the student population at Loughborough.   DEO GRATIAS!   +++

aND BY THE WAY:

Bishop Anthony obtained in June at Liverpool a beautifully crafted statue of Saint David from the renowned firm Carrera at Wavertree. It now graces the Oratory of Saint Anthony at Hampstead.

SAINT MATTHIAS, BARNSLEY CENTRAL:

Our great work at Barnsley gathers pace. Deacon Eric is certainly working hard, not only at his studies with Father Frank Dunlavey, but also “round and about” in Barnsley. There is a Deacon’s Eucharistic Service every Sunday at Noon at Burton Grange. Full details from Deacon Eric.  Welcome to Mandy and to Mr and Mrs Hayes, new members of the congregation.

AUTUMN OF RECOLLECTION:

We are planning a Saturday Day of Recollection at a Convent in Central London. There will be Mass, Offices, Rosary and silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament Exposed.
Lunch will be available in the Refectory. The date has to be finalised but is expected to be late October/early November. Please contact Bishop Anthony as soon as possible if you wish to attend. For various good reasons the venue is not being announced generally. Other than lunch, there will not be a cost.

SAINT JOHN BAPTIST, EBBW VALE:

The pattern of Masses with Father Flynn continues. The Faithful send love to all in the Archdiocese.  Miss Parkes has recovered well from her broken leg and is back at Mass.

DO PLEASE KEEP THOSE SECOND CLASS STAMPS COMING:

They are a source of real income to the Archdiocese and help tremendously with the postal bill for the despatch of the monthly Notes. As we’ve already stressed: many of our older Faithful don’t have access to a computer – and thus to our Web Site – and really do rely on the “old fashioned word” as a vital means of communication. Particular thanks to all who’ve sent stamps during August. Any Pentecost donations would also be most welcome. Cheques should be made payable to “The Traditional Roman Catholic Church” and sent to Bishop Anthony at the address at the top of the Kalendar or to Mr.Simon Gibbs, our Archdiocesan Treasurer, at:

Gibbs & Co.,Blackwell House,Guildhall Yard,London,EC2V.5AE.

God will bless you. Holy Mass is offered monthly for all our benefactors.

THE MOST HOLY NAME OF MARY:

This Feast is on Tuesday, September 12th. There will be Pontifical Solemn Mass at Hampstead at Noon followed by lunch. Mr. Simon Gibbs, Archdiocesan Treasurer, will be with us and we have a chance to discuss Archdiocesan finances and the way ahead. Thanks for all recent generous donations which are sincerely appreciated. Although there will not that day be an official Chapter Meeting (because this will be later in the autumn) we do hope that Chapter members will try to attend!
