VISITATION TO SCOTLAND:

This took place between Thursday, August 31st and Monday, September 4th when we stayed near Canon Harry Anson in the delightful Angus village of Letham.

On Friday Bishop Anthony offered Mass at Finavon Court at Forfar when sixteen people were present. We again thank Matron Julie Petrie for all her kindness and her staunch support of the Archdiocese. On Saturday the Bishop offered Mass at St. Curitan’s, Dundee where there was a congregation of nine. The veneration of the Relic of St. Pius X was given after Mass. It was a joy to meet some of our new Faithful and to learn about Father Harry’s plans for the Dundee Mission.

On the Saturday we met Mrs Jenny Edwards, new Guardian of St. David’s, Kirriemuir and it was a real coincidence to discover that she comes from Tredegar in Monmouthshire where we have a thriving Mission.
Dame Della Edling, in particular, was rather surprised when to Jenny’s piano accompaniment, the Bishop sang “David of the White Rock” in Welsh – “Dafydd Y Garreg Wen”!! Thank you Jenny for your generous hospitality.

The time of Pontifical Solemn Mass on Sunday, Feast of St. Pius X, was changed to 3pm and took place at the Mission Parish of Our Lady and Saint Peter, Aberlemno. During the Mass Canon Anson was installed as the Vicar General for Scotland. A strawberry and cream afternoon tea followed Mass and, on a glorious sunny early evening, Jenny drove us first to the sea at Monrose and then on to a local, famous Fish Restaurant for dinner. Thank you to everyone in the beautiful county of Angus for making us so welcome – and, above all, for everything you are doing to promote the Archdiocese in that county. We will be back soon.

AND FOLLOWING ON FROM THIS...

Several things of note are happening. A weekly Mass at 3pm on Fridays has been established at Dundee. Canon Harry has made a Visitation to Noranside Prison at Forfar where he met some of the inmates and prayed with them. We now hope to begin a small Mission there (based on regular Tuesday visiting) once this has been approved. Perhaps the most significant development is our recent acquiring of premises in the famous fishing town of Arbroath at Dens Road. This means a real boost to all our endeavour in Scotland. The new Mission Parish has been dedictaed to Saint Blane. We truly do owe Canon Harry a debt of gratitude for all he is doing to promote and increase the Archdiocese.

Please keep all our Scots Faithful in your prayers – including our people in Edinburgh, Linlithgow, Aberdeen and, of course, our students at Saint Andrews University. We really do want Glasgow to be next port of call!!

WITH JOY WE WELCOME A NEW PRIEST:

We are glad to announce that Father Paul Simms has been received into the Archdiocese during September. Father Paul, in his early forties, comes to us from a Western Orthodox jurisdiction and, in fact, found us via our Web Site. It is particularly good that he lives just north of Oxford so that, apart from taking charge of our small Oxford Mission of St. Cecilia, he is well situated to help in various centres, both in the Midlands and the South. It will hopefully be possible before too long to launch an overdue Mission in Birmingham. We thank God for this gift! Please pray for Father Paul.

CONSECRATION OF FATHER FRANCIS DUNLAVEY:

Following consultations over four months and a final approval from the Chapter of Advice, we can announce that on Saturday, October 21st at Wittering near Peterborough, Father Frank (Francis) Dunlavey will be consecrated as Bishop to serve our growing Midlands Faithful. We all already owe Father Francis a huge debt of gratitude. His Diocesan Title (which belongs to the Archdiocese as our Midlands Title) is to be Bishop of Whiteladies and St. Neots and our new bishop’s chaplain will be Deacon Eric Bilton.

There is further excellent news in that Father Francis is already working to establish a new Mission Parish at Stamford, a town not far from Peterborough. The new Mission will be dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi. We hope that as many as possible of our Midlands people will make every effort to attend the Consecration on October 21st. The Consecration Mass will begin at Noon. Lunch and meeting will follow.

RECEPTIONS INTO THE ORDER OF SAINT PANCRAS:

On Saturday, October 21st Father Francis Dunlavey and Reverend Mr. Eric Bilton will be received into the Order of St. Pancras and installed as Knights. Mrs June Dunlavey will be installed as a Dame of the Order. The ceremony will occur before the Consecration Mass.  Mr. Ben Duncan will also be installed as a Knight of St. Pancras at the next Mass at the Mission of St. Marylebone during October. Please remember the Order of St. Pancras in your prayers.

SAINT BENEDICT, ABERTILLERY AND SIX BELLS:

The Pontifical Mass at Abertillery on 23rd September was well attended and the Bishop was so pleased to be with you all again. Thanks to Catrina for all she does, not least for the delicious lunch, and to Julian her son for collecting the Bishop from Newport Station.

oN THE SUBJECT OF THE MISSIONS IN WALES AND MONMOUTHSHIRE:

We really do owe Father Flynn an enormous debt, specially when he travels from Ystradgynlais over into Monmouthshire. Thanks too to all our people who have remained so faithful and do their best to bring in others. The Chapter hopes that it may be possible to arrange a joint South Wales Mass soon of all our Missions and to make a presentation to Father Flynn. Please send or phone your thoughts on this to Bishop Anthony or Catrina Morgan.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW SMALL BAND !!:

Based around Lampeter in Cardiganshire. Already Paul Martin has distributed leaflets at Lampeter University and received five enquiries. Father Simms has said that he’d be happy to travel to Cardigan monthly to say Mass. The new Mission is dedicated to St. Winifred.

AND WHAT IS A MISSION?

Some people who sneer at the Missions of our Archdiocese maintain that there is no Mission unless the Mission has a priest. Those same people have themselves absolutely no people and no congregations whatever, instead merely meeting at intervals for “priestly gatherings”. This clearly is not doing the Lord’s missionary work because a Shepherd without a flock is no Shepherd at all! Our Lord said: “When two or three are gathered together in My Name, there am I in the midst of them”. Our clergy have to work hard and travel often, sometimes long distances, to bring the Sacraments to the Faithful. Let us give thanks, above all else, for the people of the Archdiocese – because they, not the priests, ARE the Church!

DO PLEASE KEEP THOSE SECOND CLASS STAMPS COMING!!

They are a source of real income to the Archdiocese and help tremendously with the postal bill for the despatch of the monthly Notes. As we’ve already stressed: many of our older Faithful don’t have access to a computer – and thus to our Web Site – and really do rely on the “old fashioned word” as a vital means of communication. Particular thanks to all who’ve sent stamps during September. Any Autumn donations would also be most welcome. Cheques should be made payable to “The Traditional Roman Catholic Church” and sent to Bishop Anthony at the address at the top of the Kalendar or to Mr. Simon Gibbs, our Archdiocesan Treasurer, at:

Gibbs & Co. ,Blackwell House, Guildhall Yard, London, EC2V.5AE.
God will bless you. Holy Mass is offered monthly for all our benefactors.
