KALENDAR ALTERATIONS BECAUSE OF HOLY WEEK

Easter is early this year and this effects somewhat certain feast days which occur in Holy Week. The feast of Saint Cuthbert which falls on March 20th may be kept on Saturday, March 15th,the Saturday in  Passion Week. This permission is on account of the devotion which many in the ArchConfraternity have to Saint Cuthbert of Lindisfarne, Alas! It is quite forbidden to keep the feast of Saint Patrick because it falls on Monday in Holy Week.
Equally the Solemnity of Saint Joseph cannot be observed on Wednesday, 19th March because, obviously, it falls in the middle of Holy Week. March is the Month of Saint Joseph, and the Bishops, in consultation with The Chapter of Advice, have decided that Saint Joseph’s Day will be solemnly kept on Monday,31st March which is the Monday in Low Week – and still in the month of the Spouse of our Blessed Lady.

DO PLEASE PRAY THE INTENTIONS WITH US.

So many of you tell us how much you appreciate the monthly Notes, and not least some of the housebound who are staunchly associated with us. Please offer the daily Intentions of the Kalendar in union with The ArchConfraternity. And please pray for all on the Sick List who specially need your prayers. You are all remembered at Holy Mass frequently. Let us in this holy time of Lent and then at Easter remember those who have so much less than we do: the Christians of the Holy Land and of Sudan – and never forgetting the suffering people of Zimbabwe/Rhodesia. Every Mass offered by our Clergy is in the Old Rite and for the Intentions of our Holy Father, Pope Benedict.

HOLY WEEK AND EASTER SERVICES:

Do please consult the Clergy and Guardians for the times. At Hampstead there will be Low Mass and Stations of the Cross each Holy Week evening at 6pm. Times in other Missions are still to be finalised but there are details of several Masses in the Kalendar proper. The Friday before Palm Sunday Father Flynn will be driven by car to Rochdale where he will stay overnight at Mrs Moira Quinn’s house before singing Mass of Palm Sunday at 2pm on Saturday 15th. There will also be the anticipated Blessing & Distribution of Palms. Thanks so much to Moira for all she does. Father looks forward to meeting you all for the first time and we expect that some of the Manchester folk will attend.
Bishop Anthony must be in London that weekend to prepare for Solemn Mass at Noon on Palm Sunday – which also happens to be his birthday. A celebration buffet lunch will follow the Mass.
The Chrism Mass will be offered at Midhurst at 11am on Maundy Thursday and Solemn Mass of the Last Supper will be at 7pm at the Hampstead Oratory. Maundy Masses also: Brecon at 11am,Ebbw Vale at 6pm and Peterborough at 6pm. Good Friday Liturgy: Hampstead at Noon;Monmouth at Noon;Peterborough at Noon. For all Services in Scotland (Dundee; Forfar; Kirriemuir; Arbroath; St.Andrews) do please consult Canon Anson.  For Easter Vigil Liturgies consult the Clergy. Easter Vigil at Hampstead at 10pm

SS.JOHN FISHER & THOMAS MORE AT ROCHDALE:

The February Mass was on Friday 15th and, as ever, it was a pleasure for Bishop Anthony to be with you all. Moira was unavoidably absent, undergoing a small “outpatients” operation at her local hospital, but one of her three sons, Matthew, an art student, was at home to offer a warm welcome to the eleven people who attended. As said above there will be Sung Mass & Blessing of Palms at Rochdale on Saturday,March 15th at 2pm. We thank sincerely the Rochdale people for their loyalty and staunch support. This Mission grew out of the embryo Mission established three years ago by one of our student Faithful, Mr Johnny Armstrong, now a librarian at Manchester University.

LATENESS IN ARRIVING AT MASS!!

This problem, it must be stressed, only applies to a handful of our Hampstead people who perpetually appear five or ten minutes after Mass has begun.  Given our present circumstances, this puts Bishop Anthony in a very difficult position. You would not be late for an audience with the Queen, so why are you happy to be late for an “audience” with GOD? It is displeasing to JESUS and very bad manners. I have been loathe to mention this earlier but think Lent an excellent time to raise this serious matter. PLEASE contemplate these words. Every Mass in future WILL begin exactly on time!!

THIS YEAR’S LENTEN COLLECTION:

is for the Leukaemia Research Fund. We do urge our Faithful to send a donation, however small, either to Bishop Anthony or to Simon Gibbs, ArchConfraternity Treasurer, made out to The Leukaemia Research Fund. We would like to send donations to them as an offering from the ArchConfraternity. A Receipt  for any donation will obviously be sent to you. Many thanks in advance.

DO PLEASE KEEP THOSE SECOND CLASS STAMPS COMING!!

They are a source of real income to the Archdiocese and help tremendously with the postal bill for the despatch of the monthly Notes. As we’ve already stressed: many of our older Faithful don’t have access to a computer – and thus to our Web Site – and really do rely on the “old fashioned word” as a vital means of communication. Particular thanks to all who’ve sent stamps during January. Lenten donations would  be most welcome. Cheques should be made payable to “The Traditional Roman Catholic Church” and sent to Bishop Anthony at the address at the top of the Kalendar or to Mr.Simon Gibbs, our ArchConfraternity Treasurer, at:
Gibbs & Co.,Blackwell House,Guildhall Yard,London,EC2V.5AE.
God will bless you.  Holy Mass is offered monthly for all our benefactors.

JUST A REMINDER

Although we are now firmly and permanently The ArchConfraternity of Our Lady of Victories, you may have observed that monetary donations are still payable to “The Traditional Roman Catholic Church”. At present, because of banking procedures, our treasurer,Simon Gibbs, and the Chapter of Advice decided to retain the old name in this one matter.

WILL CLERGY AND GUARDIANS

please send in any new names to be included on the Sick List at your earliest convenience – and tell us to remove others! Thanks.Holy Mass is offered monthly for all on the List.

THE ARCHCONFRATERNITY WEBSITE:

After teething troubles the renewed site seems to be working well.  Many people missed it in recent weeks as letters and phone calls have shown. We owe Fr.Emilio and Mr.Shane Dunlavey a debt of gratitude for all they do. The actual new domain name is  www.aolv.org.uk

OUR LADY OF PENRHYS,RHONDDA:

The next Mass is at Treorchy on Easter Monday at Noon and will be followed by a special Easter lunch. Warmest possible thanks to Glenys & Dai for all they do(and indeed have done) to build up the Mission. We are planning another Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Penrhys.

OUR LADY OF MERCY,HOLBORN:

We will be keeping the Solemnity of St.Joseph on Monday,March 31st with Pontifical Mass at 11am at Great Russell Street. Thanks to Mrs Tarrant, one of our newer people who luckily discovered us on the website. March 31st is the earliest day that we are able to keep St.Joseph’s Day this year, on account, of course, of Holy Week and Easter. We hope to see many of our London folk!
