THE HOLY WEEK & EASTER SERVICES

were offered with as much elegance and dignity as we could muster. Bishop Anthony thanks the Clergy for their unstinting efforts in what is obviously the busiest time of the liturgical year. Thanks also to all our Faithful for their loyalty and generosity.
The Solemn Pontifical Mass at Hampstead on Palm Sunday was very well attended and we thank a well wisher in nearby Fleet Road who provided an enormous palm branch from his garden to adorn the Oratory.
In particular Bishop Anthony thanks Fr.Emilio who so lovingly cleaned all the brass and silver including the heavy and intricate six High Altar candlesticks in readiness for Easter.

SS.JOHN FISHER & THOMAS MORE AT ROCHDALE:

Father Flynn reported 16 people at the special anticipated Mass of Palm Sunday on Saturday,March 15th at Rochdale. Some of the Manchester people were able to attend. Mrs Quinn remarked that it was a truly spiritual and memorable occasion. Thank you, dear Moira, for all you do – not least for the lovely meal which followed Mass and for the hospitality which you offered to Father Flynn that weekend. The next Rochdale Mass will be sung solemnly on St.George’s Day – Wednesday, April 23rd at 6pm when Father Flynn will again be celebrant. He enjoyed his visit so much last time that he is anxious to go again; and Moira, we know, is delighted to have him!

ALSO ON SAINT GEORGE’S DAY:

There will be Pontifical Solemn Mass at Hampstead at 7pm and Bishop Anthony hopes to see as many of the London people as possible that evening. A buffet supper will follow the Mass – providing you are good and all come punctually!!......

MANY THANKS TO MRS MARIE ARGYLE:

Bishop Anthony would like publicly to thank Marie Argyle of Gosport who recently embroidered two more hassocks (kneelers) for the Hampstead Oratory. Both have the most beautiful tapestry work, one in green with a large red cross and “alpha” and “omega”, and the other a cream colour with large bunches of grapes. Marie truly is a gifted needlewoman and everyone has been admiring them. The “grapes” hassock was a present from Dame Patricia Earl-Williams to whom many thanks for her kindness. Bishop Anthony hopes soon to commission a special St.Anthony of Padua kneeler.
The hassocks have been properly blessed and a Mass offered for Marie’s intentions. Marie, a friend of the Bishop’s mother, is a traditional Catholic who attends the famous St.Agatha’s Church in Portsmouth.

OUR LADY OF PENRHYS,RHONDDA:

The Solemn Mass at Treorchy at Noon on Easter Monday was very well attended, Glenys reports, as it obviously had to suffice as the Easter obligation. Two car loads came from Abertillery, one car load from Usk and one car from Brecon. We cannot thank Glenys and Dai enough for all they do. The sitting room was rather crowded but the Mass as elegant as ever and Fr.Flynn says that the singing of the Credo in Latin was particularly moving. Many people brought food and wine for a “shared lunch” and the atmosphere of great fellowship in loyalty to the Cause was tangible. Let us never forget what we owe to our staunch laity who have, in many cases,  suffered the loss of their parish churches in the defence of Catholic Tradition. As many of you tell me: “We didn’t leave without a fight – but we are glad we had the courage of our convictions and would never go back!”

MANY THANKS TO MRS JOAN REED,

one of our Southampton stalwarts for a generous donation.

THIS YEAR’S LENTEN COLLECTION

was for the Leukemia Research Fund. Sincere thanks for the donations received so far. The appeal stays open to the end of April and we do beg you to send a donation, however small, either to Bishop Anthony or to Simon Gibbs. Both addresses are of course in these pages.

SAINT ALOYSIUS,CLAPHAM AND BATTERSEA:

The time of the last Mass was changed to Thursday,
March 13th at 7pm. Thanks again to Miss Magda Rhodes for her hospitality and staunch support. Also to Dominic O’Leary and his girlfriend Clarissa Parsons, two of our student Faithful, for all they do. It really is quite easy for Bishop Anthony to get to Queenstown Road by mainline train. Recently two friends of Magda have begun attending the monthly Mass – welcome indeed! And Dominic and Clarissa never tire of trying to recruit fellow students at their respective colleges. There were seven at the last Mass. The April Mass will be on Tuesday 22nd at 7pm, again at Queenstown Road and will be followed by an informal meeting & supper.
Magda wonders whether it might be possible to have two Masses per month. As you all know this depends on Bishop Anthony’s workload. However it would certainly be possible to offer one Sunday morning Mass every month as well as an occasional weekday service. Our Hampstead people would have to accept the sacrifice of losing one Solemn Midday Mass one Sunday a month, replaced by Low Mass in the evening!!

DO PLEASE KEEP THOSE SECOND CLASS STAMPS COMING!!

They are a source of real income to the Archdiocese and help tremendously with the postal bill for the despatch of the monthly Notes. As we’ve already stressed: many of our older Faithful don’t have access to a computer – and thus to our Web Site – and really do rely on the “old fashioned word” as a vital means of communication. Particular thanks to all who’ve sent stamps during March. Easter donations would  be most welcome. Cheques should be made payable to “The Traditional Roman Catholic Church” and sent to Bishop Anthony at the address at the top of the Kalendar or to Mr.Simon Gibbs, our ArchConfraternity Treasurer, at:
Gibbs & Co.,Blackwell House,Guildhall Yard,London,EC2V.5AE.
God will bless you.  Holy Mass is offered monthly for all our benefactors.

JUST A REMINDER…

Although we are now firmly and permanently The ArchConfraternity of Our Lady of Victories, you may have observed that monetary donations are still payable to “The Traditional Roman Catholic Church”. At present, because of banking procedures, our treasurer,Simon Gibbs, and the Chapter of Advice decided to retain the old name in this one matter.

WILL CLERGY AND GUARDIANS

please send in any new names to be included on the Sick List at your earliest convenience – and tell us to remove others! Thanks.Holy Mass is offered monthly for all on the List.

THE ARCHCONFRATERNITY WEBSITE:

Is now working efficiently thanks to Father Emilio Tundidor-Suarez and Mr.Shane Dunlavey who is the son of Bishop Francis Dunlavey at Peterborough. The actual new domain name is  www.aolv.org.uk

OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY, PETERBOROUGH:

Warm thanks to Bishop Francis Dunlavey and his whole family for all they do. Recently Bishop Frank has been quite poorly with much back pain, following an operation on his back last year. Please keep him in your prayers. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
