OUR LADY OF PENRHYS,RHONDDA. |
Glenys reported 22 people at Solemn Mass on Sunday 15th June,
following a local publicity campaign instigated by members of the congregation. Five people from the local Novus Ordo Church came for the first time and two older ladies were in tears because they never thought that they would hear the Old Mass again! Now they will! Thank you GOD – and thank you all in Treorchy!
The Rhondda Mass on Friday,June 20th was attended by 17 Faithful, including three who had driven over from Six Bells. It was the Feast of Pope Saint Silverius who died in Prison in 537 by order of the Empress Theodocia for resisting heresy. What is new! Father Flynn preached on the Epistle of the Day from St. Jude the Apostle: Patience and Faithfulness to the Truths we have received. “Be mindful of the words spoken before by the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ who told you that in the last time should come mockers, walking according to their own desires..”

THE SOLEMNITY OF OUR LADY OF PENRHYS. : |
The Bishop Metropolitan, with the approval of Bishop Dunlavey, the Clergy and the Chapter, has decided that the Feast of Our Lady of Penrhys will from July this year be kept permanently on the Sunday which is nearest to July 17th – the actual Feast Day. This year it is Sunday, July 20th. This rule is of Obligation in all our British Missions but need not be kept in Bohemia.
“Penrhys” is of course the Welsh part of Bishop Anthony’s Episcopal Title. The Propers of the Mass are of Sancta Maria in Porticu and are in the Missal. In the Rhondda there will be Solemn Mass at 11am followed by a special Summer Lunch and then the annual mountain walk to the Shrine of Our Lady of Penrhys for those fit enough to make the climb. Vespers and Rosary will take place at the Shrine and the day will end with Benediction back at Glenys’ and Dai’s house. Weather permitting, Mass will be sung in the garden.
Yes, Glenys, I know. I am forbidden from thanking you……The Shrine of Our Lady of Penrhys towers far above the Rhondda township of Penrhys and is thankfully free of all the vulgar commercial jingle-jangle of places like Walsingham, Lourdes and Fatima. May it always be so! Penrhys is, in fact, one of the poorest places in Britain with an enormous rate of unemployment. Let us pray that Our Lady of Penrhys will bring the people of South Wales back to the Faith of their Fathers! +Amen+

| SAINT ANTHONY’S DAY: |
Solemn High Mass was at Hampstead at 7pm followed by the Blessing of the Lilies and Veneration of the Relics. There was a good congregation, though we missed those who were away on holiday. It was good to see one of our Anglican friends, Mrs Jill Casselton, in the congregation. Fr. Emilio was Deacon. Mass was followed by a champagne supper before we took the floor for “The Lambeth Walk”!

SS.JOHN FISHER & THOMAS MORE,ROCHDALE: |
The Mass on Saturday 28th June has yet to take place but Moira reported 15 people earlier in June on the 9th, Feast of Saint Columba. Dominic Quinn who is the eldest of Moira’s three sons kindly drove to Ystradgynlais to collect Father Flynn who is, if I dare say so, now becoming a fixture at Moira’s! But I happen to know a very welcome fixture! In August he is going with Moira and Desmond for a well deserved (and needed) two week holiday in Normandy, so the Welsh Masses will be curtailed, although Bishop Anthony will be in Cardiff and Ebbw Vale in August – dates not fixed yet.
The Patronal Solemn Mass at Rochdale is on Wednesday, July 9th at 1pm – Feast of Saints John Fisher and Thomas More. It will be followed by a celebration lunch to which the Manchester folk will contribute. We are delighted to learn that Moira, Desmond and our Rochdale people are planning an autumn visit to our South Wales Faithful, either to the Rhondda or to Abertillery – or maybe both!

SAINT DAVID’S,CARDIFF. |
Father Mark’s work in Grangetown and the Docks continues apace with a full programme of Sunday and weekday Masses. We are happy to announce that Mr. John Allen will be raised to the highest minor Order of Subdeacon in August, and that Mrs Helen Vassilakis will be admitted to the ancient Order of Deaconess at the same time when Bishop Anthony will be in South Wales. Both John and Helen had been “Eucharistic Ministers” within their previous Jurisdiction – a title not accepted within The ArchConfraternity. Helen’s work will be much enhanced by this official appointment, not least her great ministry of counselling and sick visiting. We must stress that the ancient Order of Deaconess is strictly a lay Order, but an Order of great value within the Church. John’s Ordination as Subdeacon may well in time lead to his Ordination to the Diaconate. Please pray for John and Helen as they prepare to take on these new challenges in Christ’s Name and continue all the stirling work in Cardiff. God’s +Blessing on them both.

| DO PLEASE KEEP THOSE SECOND CLASS STAMPS COMING!! |
They are a source of real income to the ArchConfraternity, helping tremendously with the postal bill for the despatch of the monthly Notes. As we’ve already stressed: many of our older Faithful don’t have access to a computer – and thus to our Web Site – and really do rely on the “old fashioned word” as a vital means of communication. Particular thanks to all who’ve sent stamps during June. Please send a donation for The Precious Blood.. Cheques should be made payable to “The Traditional Roman Catholic Church” and sent to Bishop Anthony at the address at the top of the Kalendar or to Mr.Simon Gibbs, our ArchConfraternity Treasurer, at:
Gibbs & Co.,Blackwell House,Guildhall Yard,London,EC2V.5AE.
God will bless you. Holy Mass is offered monthly for all our benefactors.

| SAINT JAMES’ DAY. |
This occurs on Friday, July 25th and is always kept with great solemnity within The ArchConfraternity. There will be Solemn Masses with Blessing of the Sea Shells at Chelsea at Noon and at Hampstead at 7pm. We hope the Midhurst people may attend at 7pm! Summer Supper to follow. Do come!
We pray that day for the Catholics of Spain - not least for the democratic overthrowing of the truly vile, quasi-communist Spanish Government which is, as Father Emilio assures us, doing all it can to destroy the Church!! We plan a Pilgrimage to Compostella next year. Please record your interest now!

| SAINT BENEDICT,ABERTILLERY & SIX BELLS. |
Mrs Rees reported 14 people at the last Mass on 18th June at her home in Marine Street, Cwm. Cwm is part of Ebbw Vale but our Cwm stalwarts are attached to Abertillery! We are pleased to say that 5 of the Ebbw Vale gang turned up, including Mrs O’Shea and Miss Riley!! It was a chance for serious talks between the formidable ladies of the two Missions – all ending in an unanimous decision to work together more closely – for which Bishop Anthony blesses you! +
