SAINT PIUS X, MIDHURST: |
The November Mass was put back a day to Wednesday, November 19th at 6pm on account of an important London commitment which Bishop Anthony had in London the next day.
Mass should have been offered at Hove at Noon on the 19th, but the Hove people very happily came down the road to Midhurst instead. They admitted that they were all rather keen to see Mrs Ullathorne’s house and garden – but the garden will have to wait till the spring!! There were 27 people at the Mass which was followed by a light supper and the chance for our Faithful in these two (of our three) Sussex Missions to become better acquainted. Bishop Anthony stayed overnight which provided an opportunity for serious dialogue amongst us all. Unfortunately the Worthing folk were not present but all our Sussex Faithful are committed to working together more closely, although of course remaining as three separate Missions.

OUR LADY, STAR OF THE SEA, BRIGHTON & HOVE: |
This is admittedly the smallest of our Sussex Missions with an average Mass attendance of nine or ten – as with Midhurst, people deeply attached to the Old Mass but who, for various reasons, do not wish to attend the Society of Saint Pius X. We thank Jean Hillier and Greg Tarrant for all they do. There will be close links in future with both Midhurst & Worthing.
The next Mass at Hove will be on Tuesday, December 2nd at 1pm followed by lunch. Many thanks to Jean.

| THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT(GAUDETE): |
Sunday, 14th December. Today vestments are pink or rose and flowers permitted. At Saint Anthony’s, Hampstead during Solemn Pontifical Mass there will be the annual Advent/Christmass devotional readings at Noon. All welcome. A buffet lunch will follow. Mr. Robin Saikia, a writer and scholar, and Dame Victoria Carpenter, an actress, will give the readings, as they did at Gaudete last year. We thank them sincerely for all they do for the Hampstead Mission. Somehow Gaudete, with all its spiritual expectancy, as we wait for our dear Lord’s Coming at Christmass, is a feast of such joy and hope. Come and share it with us!

SAINT JOHN BAPTIST, EBBW VALE & TREDEGAR: |
There were two Masses in November, the first as listed on Friday 14th at Tredegar when Miss Riley reported 16 people including 4 from the Rhondda. There was also Solemn Mass and Benediction at Mrs O’Shea’s on Sunday 23rd, Feast of Christ the King at Noon which was a joint celebration with Abertillery. 28 of our Faithful were present and again Glenys and Dai brought a carful from Treorchy. The following shared lunch was provided by members of both Missions – as was the wine. Thank you one and all, not least our dear Father Flynn who was driven home by Dai and Glenys. Our Monmouthshire/Rhondda stalwarts are talking about a “pilgrimage” to Midhurst next spring.

SAINT SEBASTIAN, SHEPHERDS BUSH: |
There was Pontifical Solemn Mass on Saturday, November 8th at Goldhawk Road, thanks to Mrs O’Connor. Fourteen people were present, including Magda and John from Battersea. A “brought and shared” lunch followed when we were able to discuss new year plans in the Mission. There was also an unlisted Mass at Goldhawk Road on Friday, 21st November at 7pm – feast of the Presentation of Our Lady. Thirteen were present. The next listed Mass is on Wednesday, 10th December at 7pm – feast of the Translation of the Holy House of Our Lady of Loretto. We do hope a few of our Sussex Faithful will attend, as promised. Mass will be followed by a pre Christmass festive supper with mulled wine.

| SAINTS JOHN FISHER AND THOMAS MORE, ROCHDALE: |
There is joyful news from Rochdale! The Mission has now obtained its own building on the eastern outskirts of the town. It was previously a small, private nursery school and in fact, having been empty for some years, is in a rather dilapidated state. Peter Quinn, the eldest of Moira’s three sons, knew of this “pre-fab” nursery and negotiated an annual lease with the owner. We offer warm and sincere thanks to Peter who, with the more sturdy of the Congregation, has already begun the task of restoring the building which will, they think, seat about sixty people once the Sanctuary has been erected. The lavatories need much alteration but the existing kitchen can easily be put to rights. Peter is commencing a course towards the diaconate. This break-through is of both symbolic and concrete significance as a sign of the continuing growth of The ArchConfraternity. This is our 2nd building – the other at Arbroath, as mentioned last month. Next Mass at Moira’s on December 1st. +DEO GRATIAS+ |

| SAINT JUDMILA, HAVLICKUV BROD: |
This has become one of our most enthusiastic Missions in East Bohemia where Father Lukas Tenkrat continues to increase the Congregation of staunch traditionalists, not least with the help of his sister, Ena. They have the permanent use of a Catholic Chapel-of-Ease so in fact we have three buildings, not two!! We are helped by the most generous spirit of the Czech Novus Ordo bishops.

|
| |
| GENERALLY ABOUT OUR CZECH MISSIONS: |
The work in Prague, Chrudim and Hradec continues its usual pattern of Masses and parochial activities with regular mutual support between the Missions. Perhaps most appropriately, Father Zezulek who is based at Bila Hora, has now extended his work into the Prague suburb of Svaty Pankrac (Saint Pancras) !! An average of ten people attend the Tuesday evening Mass at Sv. Pankrac – a big VITAME (Welcome) to you all. So we now have our first Mission dedicated solely to Saint Pancras:and the Bishop of Saint Pancras is delighted! In Moravia Father Josev has, within weeks, mastered the Old Rite and there is a weekly Mass at Noon on Wednesdays, entirely in Latin except for the Epistle and Gospel in Czech. This Brno Mass is in union with The ArchConfraternity although also in communion with the Novus Ordo ecclesiastical authorities. We owe the Czech bishops a debt of gratitude. David Tenkrat, the young cousin of our dear Father Lukas, is a student in Brno and Bishop Anthony was staying with him in August. David reports an average attendance of thirty people – not all elderly!! He has kindly produced a most attractive leaflet, on good quality paper, about The ArchConfraternity, written of course in Czech but in English also for foreign visitors. We thank all our Czech Faithful from the bottom of our hearts.

| |
| DO PLEASE KEEP THOSE SECOND CLASS STAMPS COMING!! |
They are a source of real income to the ArchConfraternity, helping tremendously with the postal bill for the despatch of the monthly Notes. As we’ve already stressed: many of our older Faithful don’t have access to a computer – and thus to our Web Site – and really do rely on the “old fashioned word” as a vital means of communication. Particular thanks to all who sent stamps during November. Please send a donation for Christmass. Cheques should be made payable to “The Traditional Roman Catholic Church” and sent to Bishop Anthony at the address at the top of the Kalendar or to Mr.Simon Gibbs, our ArchConfraternity Treasurer, at:
Gibbs & Co.,Blackwell House,Guildhall Yard,London,EC2V.5AE.
God will bless you. Holy Mass is offered monthly for all our benefactors.
