REAFFIRMATION OF THE CATHOLIC ORTHODOX UNION OF SS PETER AND PAUL
|
The Union was reaffirmed with a new Document signed by Bishop Anthony and Bishop Robert McBride on November 12th in London. By it, The ArchConfraternity enters into Communion with The Ecumenical Society of Saint Augustine of Canterbury which was recently founded by Bishop Robert with the support of Canon Robin Westwood, Canon Martyn Douglas and Father Terry Merrifield. It must be stressed that the two branches of the Union remain quite separate, each with its own different, though traditional Catholic, ethos. There is a Link to The Ecumenical Society of Saint Augustine on The ArchConfraternity website. The bishops of the ArchConfraternity, as well as the other Clergy and The Chapter of Advice, were in agreement with this renewed relationship. Please pray for us all as we go forward together in the love of Jesus & Mary.

EPIPHANY OF THE LORD: |
This is of course on January 6th and is an Holyday of Obligation. For times of Masses, please consult Clergy or Guardians. At Hampstead there will be Pontifical Solemn Mass and the traditional Epiphany ceremonies at 7pm. It is at Epiphany that chalk is solemnly blessed and the initials of the three Wise Men [K+M+B+] inscribed on our church and house doorposts as a sign of Catholic Welcome to pilgrims and travellers that, in Christ’s Name, they would be offered hospitality.

| DEACON ERIC BILTON OF BARNSLEY: |
We are delighted to announce that, after a sabbatical year, Deacon Eric has returned to The ArchConfraternity as from November. His Mission remains that of Saint Matthias, Barnsley Central, the Title being in memory of his mother who had devotion to Saint Matthias.
Eric has been continuing his studies and Bishop Anthony proposes to raise him to the Sacred Priesthood at some stage in the spring, once the Chapter has approved this. Deo Gratias+

NEW TESSAC MISSION AT STROUD: |
With the full consent of Bishop Anthony, Father Mark Paris has been received into The Ecumenical Society of Saint Augustine. This was considered more appropriate for Father’s liturgical position, rather than remaining within The ArchConfraternity, the liturgy of which is strictly Tridentine. But as both branches of the Union are closely linked, there has been no parting. Mark has in fact left Cardiff and returned to his native Stroud in Gloucestershire where he has founded the new Mission of Our Lady of The Rosary. This thus leads to a new situation in Cardiff…….

THE NEW MISSION OF SAINTS DAVID AND MARTIN, CARDIFF CENTRAL: |
To cater for the needs of the existing Cardiff congregation, and bearing in mind the great work already undertaken in South Wales and Monmouthshire by The ArchConfraternity, the Cardiff Faithful are to remain under the care of Bishop Anthony, but as a new Mission based in the City Centre and thus near the main railway station which is just two hours from Paddington. It is hoped that some of our Cardiff stalwarts will be able also to attend Mass up in neighbouring Treorchy in the Rhondda. But we cannot ask Father Flynn, with his already very heavy Mission workload, to undertake visits to yet another parish!

| PATRONAL FESTIVAL AT SHEPHERDS BUSH: |
The Feast of Saints Fabian and Sebastian falls on 20th January, a Tuesday, and there will be Solemn Mass at Saint Sebastian’s, Shepherds Bush at 7pm, again at Goldhawk Road, thanks to Eileen O’Connor to whom we owe a genuine debt of loving gratitude. Of course, as with all our stalwart Guardians, Eileen refuses to accept a word of praise. The Mass of Ages has always been the lodestar of her life. The ArchConfraternity is humbled to have her support. There will be a buffet supper after Mass and the congregation will be contributing wine and various food dishes, as agreed. |

| BISHOP ANTHONY AND DAME DELLA EDLING |
will be spending some of Christmass with Fr. Emilio at Cosgrove in Northamptonshire where he is Parish Priest of the Mission of Our Lady of Hope near Milton Keynes. Dame Patricia Earl-Williams, the bishop’s mother, will be joining us for Mass and lunch on 27th December and so looks forward to seeing the Cosgrove Chapel. On Sunday 28th Bishop Anthony will sing Pontifical Solemn Mass at Our Lady of Hope at Noon, followed by Benediction. We are delighted to learn that Bishop Robert McBride will also be joining us for Mass that day and we look forward to seeing him.

| FEAST OF THE TRIUMPH OF ORTHODOXY: |
This is kept annually at the Hampstead Oratory and this year it is Sunday, January 18th when there will be Orthodox Solemn Divine Liturgy at Noon. We hope some of our London Faithful will attend. It must be stressed that this Feast is NOT of Obligation in any other of our Missions; it is kept faithfully by Bishop Anthony in solemn, humble recognition that the Apostolic Line of Succession of the bishops of The ArchConfraternity comes in part through the Russian Orthodox Church which accepts our Holy Orders as valid – as does the Vatican. The Liturgy will be sung in English.

| DO PLEASE KEEP THOSE SECOND CLASS STAMPS COMING!! |
They are a source of real income to the ArchConfraternity, helping tremendously with the postal bill for the despatch of the monthly Notes. As we’ve already stressed: many of our older Faithful don’t have access to a computer – and thus to our Web Site – and really do rely on the “old fashioned word” as a vital means of communication. Particular thanks to all who sent stamps during December. Please send a donation for January. Cheques should be made payable to “The Traditional Roman Catholic Church” and sent to Bishop Anthony at the address at the top of the Kalendar or to Mr.Simon Gibbs, our ArchConfraternity Treasurer, at:
Gibbs & Co.,Blackwell House,Guildhall Yard,London,EC2V.5AE.
God will bless you. Holy Mass is offered monthly for all our benefactors.

| SAINT ALOYSIUS GONZAGA, BATTERSEA & CLAPHAM: |
Thanks to Magda and John and our most faithful Battersea people, the work goes on, based now mainly at Queenstown Road. The next Sunday Mass at Queenstown Road will be sung at Noon on the Feast of The Holy Family - January 11th in the Old Rite.
Please will all you Battersea stalwarts attend! Magda promises New Year drinks and buffet to follow. Mrs O’Connor and certainly a few from Shepherds Bush are sure to turn up! There will also be a Battersea Mass on Tuesday, January 27th at 7pm, Feast of Saint John Chrysostom. On that evening we will pray particularly for Clive Christie, Guardian of the Mission on Kos, who has been bravely battling with throat cancer and so hopes to be able to return from Scotland to his beloved, adopted Greek island very soon. God grant it! +

| SAINT BENEDICT AT MANSFIELD: |
The work progresses in the loving and capable hands of our dear Bishop David Bowler and Father Richard Edey. There is a full daily programme of Holy Mass and Offices and their community works include prison visiting by Father Richard. Please keep them in your prayers.

| SAINT BENEDICT, ABERTILLERY: |
Catrina reported 18 people at Mass on Friday, December 19th. The atmosphere was full of hope for 2009! Next Mass at Six Bells on Monday, January 26th at Mrs Dare’s (6pm)
