SOLEMN PONTIFICAL MASS AT KETTERING:

Bishop Anthony offered a Solemn Pontifical Mass on 12th July on behalf of the ArchConfraternity at the newly consecrated Oratory of Our Lady of Walsingham in Kettering. Bishop David Bowler and Father Richard Edey came from Mansfield, and Father Eric Bilton came with two of our Barnsley Central congregation of Saint Matthias, Howard and Andy. Bishop Anthony preached on the Gospel for the Sixth Sunday after Pentecost: Divers have come from afar: words spoken by Our Lord before the miracle of the loaves and fishes.  Many of our people do indeed travel sacrificial, long distances to be present at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Traditional Latin Rite!   Deo Gratias!
Mass was followed by Pimms and a delicious buffet lunch in Bishop Robert’s garden. It was pleasant to see old friends and we thank them for coming. Bishop Anthony presented the Kettering Oratory with an Ikon of Saints Peter and Paul in an embrace which represents the Union between the ArchConfraternity and the Ecumenical Society of Saint Augustine. The authenticated Greek Ikon was blessed before Holy Mass.
Bishop Anthony thanks Bishop Robert for the gift of a beautifully delicate lace alb with an intricate pattern of roses, which dates from the early part of the 20th Century. It will be worn only on Solemn High Days!

SAINT WINIFRED AT CARDIGAN:

The Solemn Mass on Saturday, July 4th at Llandysul was again very well attended by 16 people. We thank Paul Martin for his hospitality and for all his stirling work. Fr. Flynn reported two new people – an older Welsh  lady, recently retired back to the area from Birmingham and a second year Lampeter student. Next Mass on Sunday, July 26th at Noon at Cardigan, thanks to Mrs Prosser.
Father Flynn travels long distances to bring the Mass of Ages to so many Missions! Please be sure to support this Sunday Solemn Mass which will be followed by lunch!! Mass also on Friday, August 7th at 7pm, back at Llandysul. Supper follows. We ask all our Faithful to keep the Cardigan Mission in your regular prayers.

SAINT SEBASTIAN, SHEPHERDS BUSH:

With some of our younger stalwarts away on holiday, the time of Mass on Tuesday, July 14th, feast of Saint Bonaventure, was changed to 5.30 pm when eight people were present at Goldhawk Road. We thank Mr. Gilderson for a most generous donation to the Shepherds Bush Mission.  Solemn Mass on Sunday, August 2nd at Noon (which means Low Mass at Hampstead at 6.30pm).
Like Ruth at Holborn, Eileen O’Connor has collected a lovely  assortment of ecclesiastical accoutrements, some donated, like a superb set of green damask, 19th Century vestments which came from Eileen’s aunt, Miss Hughes, who is now in a Dublin Nursing Home. We thank you with all our hearts for everything!

SAINT BENEDICT AT MANSFIELD:

Bishop David Bowler and Father Richard Edey have invited us up to Mansfield on Saturday, September 12, Feast of the Holy Name of Mary, for Solemn Mass at Noon. We do so hope to see some of our stalwarts on the day! The Mass will be offered in one of the Mansfield Novus Ordo Catholic Churches and we thank the Clergy there for all their kindness. Ask for further details. Do please pray for the Benedictine work at Mansfield. Holy Mass and all Offices are offered daily for the needs of our suffering world; and pray too for Bishop David and Father Richard who are not always in the best of health.

OUR LADY OF MORAVIA AT BRNO

The great work at Brno continues – again thanks to the deep love and charity of the Novus Ordo Catholic authorities. Father Josef reports anything up to forty people – and even more in summer time when many traditional American Catholics return to their roots in the Czech Lands. Father is teaching a senior seminarian to say the Old Rite. Many thanks to David Tenkrat, Parish Guardian [“Mission” is not appropriate at Brno!!] for all he does – mere words just cannot express our gratitude. Several fresh students have joined us, as well as some middle aged ladies who came suspiciously – then stayed to pray and now come regularly! Bishop Anthony is unsure, at time of writing, whether he’ll be able to make a Visitation into Moravia during the 3 weeks he will spend in Bohemia. Do forgive him if not. He is in regular telephone contact with Father Josef, David and others. Some beautiful coloured photos, taken by young David, are available. They were laminated by Bishop McBride and show Bishop Anthony offering Mass last August at the High Altar of the church (the Elevation of the Host, in fact). On the reverse side is the ArchConfraternity prayer to our Lady of Victories. Please do ask for one to be sent to you, if you would like. And do, we beg, all remember our Brno people at Mass and in your prayers.

THE SEPTEMBER NOTES

will be some days late on account of Bishop Anthony’s Visitation to Bohemia.

OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS:

As usual there will be Solemn Mass at the Hampstead Oratory on August 5th – a Wednesday – at 7pm. We pray that day for the conversion of all who know not Christ.  Mary’s prayers achieve so very much, but she does like to be asked!!   It will be the ninth Anniversary of Bishop Anthony’s Ordination to the Priesthood in +2000. Do please come and celebrate on August 5th at 7pm!!

WE SOMETIMES HEAR

in roundabout ways when people wish to be removed from the Sick List. It really would be more helpful if you will please tell Clergy & Guardians directly. Thanks. Holy Mass is offered monthly for you all.

DO PLEASE KEEP THOSE SECOND CLASS STAMPS COMING!!

They are a source of real income to the ArchConfraternity, helping tremendously with the postal bill for the despatch of the monthly Notes. As we’ve already stressed: many of our older Faithful don’t have access to a computer – and thus to our Web Site – and really do rely on the “old fashioned word” as a vital means of communication. Particular thanks to all who sent stamps during July.  Please send an August Donation for Our Lady. Cheques should be made payable to “The Traditional Roman Catholic Church” and sent to Bishop Anthony at the address at the top of the Kalendar or to Mr.Simon Gibbs, our ArchConfraternity Treasurer, at:
Gibbs & Co., Blackwell House, Guildhall Yard, London,EC2V.5AE.
God will bless you.    Holy Mass is offered monthly for all our benefactors.

OUR BENEFACTORS:

You are all also remembered regularly at Holy Mass.  Our humble,  most grateful thanks.

THE ASSUMPTION OF OUR LADY:

This is an Holyday of Obligation when Catholics are bound to hear Mass. Please ask Clergy and Guardians for times.  The Feast is Saturday, August 15th – and NOT Sunday, August 16th!!!

THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY:

This is to be kept as a Day of Solemn Devotion by all the people of the ArchConfraternity. It is of course one week after The Assumption, on Saturday, August 22nd.   Bishop Anthony will by then be in Bohemia with our Faithful there and arrangements will be made, as they are every year, for the care of the London people.  Please keep this whole day in loving contemplation of Mary’s part in our Redemption.

SAINT BENEDICT’S, ABERTILLERY & SIX BELLS:

There was Solemn Mass & Benediction at Six Bells on 21st July, Tuesday, at 6pm at Mrs Churchill’s. As planned, the service was followed by a Summer Supper. Glenys was able to bring eight from the Rhondda and Mrs Churchill reported twenty seven people. A young man, encouraged by our dear Catrina, came from Bryngwyn Road: his first visit. He received the inevitable warm Six Bells welcome at the following Bring-and-Share Supper. The next weekday Mass on Thursday, 20th.August will also be at Mrs Churchill’s because Catrina Morgan is taking a well earned holiday in Torquay. Bishop Anthony looks forward to seeing our Monmouthshire stalwarts early in September when he will be staying with Ray Dobbs in Ebbw Vale.
