BISHOP ANTHONY’S VISITATION TO BOHEMIA:
|
This began on Wednesday, August 12th when there was an evening Mass at Bila Hora, Prague and ended on Thursday, September 3rd again with a final Mass of thanksgiving at Bila Hora. As noted in the August Kalendar, Solemn Masses were offered at our various Mission location – namely Pardubice, Chrudim and Havlickuv Brod, and as usual Bishop Anthony was able to offer Mass in the Old Rite at Slatinany. Thanks to the Parish Priest there.
It was a delight to be with our Clergy and people, and every occasion was memorable in different ways. It may seem inappropriate to make mention of individuals, but I know that Fathers Vojen and Zezulek will be happy for me to thank Father Tenkrat for his unfailing, stirling work at Saint Judmila’s, Havlickuv Brod where the congregation is now averaging eighty people. The day of the Solemn Pontifical Mass there was one of pouring rain (in contrast to the three weeks of blistering heat during the entire Visitation!!), but this did nothing to mar the event, and Bishop Anthony was profoundly moved by the welcome he received. In fact the enthusiastic welcome in all the Missions was almost overwhelming, as was the typical Czech hospitality.
Sincere thanks also to Pani Maria Navratilova, our energetic Guardian at Chrudim, for all she did in the three weeks. As Bishop Anthony writes this he is already missing you all greatly. A fuller account of the Visitation is being written in Czech and going obviously to all our Czech faithful. Bishop Anthony was able also to see his Czech cousins and to spend much time with his many Czech friends, not all of whom share our religious persuasion! A Mass of Requiem was offered for the +Repose of the soul of young Tomas Vychodil who died tragically two years ago, aged just 32. He was one of our loyal supporters, but beyond that a very close and loving friend. Prayers were of course offered at his grave, and candles and flowers laid on behalf of all in England who had known dear Tom.

OUR LADY OF PENRHYS, RHONDDA: |
Glenys, Dai and all our Rhondda stalwarts are hoping that all our South Wales and Monmouthshire people will make every effort to be present on Tuesday, September 8th for the Feast of The Nativity of Our Lady. Solemn Mass at 7pm, followed, as ever, by a Bring-and-Share Meal.
Angela Ullathorne is intending to bring some people from Midhurst, and Glenys is arranging a return visit to Midhurst. Dai is licensed to drive a mini bus and an October date is likely. The last Rhondda Mass on the Feast of Saint Maximilian Kolbe (Vigil of the Assumption) was attended by twenty five people. Because of the practicalities of our circumstances, Father Flynn sang an anticipated Mass of The Assumption with a commemoration of Saint Maximilian, a Polish Catholic priest, who gave his life at Oswieczem (Auschwitz) that a Jew might live. He was of course canonised by the late Holy Father. On a rather more mundane note, Catrina Morgan will be back from her much deserved break at Torquay and says she will gladly put up four of the Midhurst people at Abertillery. Thanks to you all. Bishop Anthony will not be long back from his Czech Visitation and unfortunately just cannot be with you on September 8th!

| AND FOR MASS TIMES OF OUR LADY’S NATIVITY: |
Please consult Clergy and Guardians. There will be Pontifical Solemn Mass that day at Noon at Shepherds Bush – as usual at Eileen O’Connor’s. Will our London Faithful please come! Lunch to follow. Another mundane note: Bishop Anthony has only just found out (thanks to Father Emilio using the Line when in London) that he can now get very quickly to Shepherds Bush from Hampstead Heath Railway Station; and furthermore that same train now continues to Clapham Junction – so easy for Queenstown Road Masses. Alleluja! – if the Lord won’t mind my saying so! Seriously, this really will make travel to two of our best attended London Missions so very much easier. Deo Gratias!

MIDHURST AND WORTHING: |
The monthly Masses at the very end of July were, as ever, well attended and, in fact, followed by another Midhurst Mass on Tuesday, August 4th. This occurred so that there would be an August Mass before Bishop Anthony leaves for Bohemia. The advertised Mass on Monday, August 3rd was cancelled, but eleven of the Worthing people made their way to Midhurst in three cars for Solemn Mass at 1pm. Thanks to Angela’s unceasing generosity there was a lovely Summer Buffet Lunch when we were able to be partly in the lovely garden. Autumn and Winter plans and Mass times were discussed, and Marie Todd organised a highly successful Raffle which raised over £120 to be shared between the two Missions.
In September there will be no Midhurst Mass but another joint Solemn Mass at Worthing on Tuesday, 22nd September at Noon. This all takes into account Bishop Anthony’s Visitation to Bohemia; he returns on 3rd September, Feast of St. Pius X, when there will be Solemn Mass at Prague [Bila Hora] at 10am when the Midhurst Faithful will obviously be very much in mind on their Patronal Day.

| DO PLEASE KEEP THOSE SECOND CLASS STAMPS COMING!! |
They are a source of real income to the ArchConfraternity, helping tremendously with the postal bill for the despatch of the monthly Notes. As we’ve already stressed: many of our older Faithful don’t have access to a computer – and thus to our Web Site – and really do rely on the “old fashioned word” as a vital means of communication. Particular thanks to all who sent stamps during August. Please send a September Donation for St. Michael. Cheques should be made payable to “The Traditional Roman Catholic Church” and sent to Bishop Anthony at the address at the top of the Kalendar or to Mr.Simon Gibbs, our ArchConfraternity Treasurer, at:
Gibbs & Co., Blackwell House, Guildhall Yard, London,EC2V.5AE.
God will bless you. Holy Mass is offered monthly for all our benefactors.

| FEAST OF SAINT WENCESLAUS OF BOHEMIA: |
This occurs on Monday, 28th September and is an Holy day of Obligation in Bohemia and Moravia. There will Solemn Masses in all our Czech Missions; in Hampstead there will be Solemn Pontifical Mass at 7pm and we do hope that as many as possible of our London people will come. The Feast this year coincides with the Visitation of our Holy Father Pope Benedict to the Czech Lands. On Monday 28th the Pope will offer Holy Mass at Stara Boleslav, the town and holy site of the martyrdom (assassination) of Saint Wenseclaus by orders of his own brother.

| FEAST OF SAINT MICHAEL ARCHANGEL: |
Is celebrated on Tuesday, 29th September. Solemn Mass at Holborn (Russell Square) that evening at 7pm. Please consult Clergy and Guardians for times of all other Masses.
