OUR LADY OF PENRHYS, RHONDDA:
|
The well advertised Solemn Mass on September 8th, Feast of The Nativity of Our Lady was supported by fifty three people – seven of our Midhurst Faithful making their promised trip. People from our other South Wales and Monmouthshire Missions also came and the Mass was sung in the local Scout Hall which had been transformed beautifully into an appropriate setting for the offering of the Holy Sacrifice. Thanks to the scouts for their kindness and indeed for their generous offer of future hospitality. Glenys reports that twenty five percent of the large collection was given to the scouts who had, in fact, given their hall free of charge. This new venue bodes well for further South Wales joint events. Father Flynn preached on Our Lady’s pre-destined role as Mother of the Redeemer. Only one person in the Midhurst contingent had ever visited South Wales before, that being Angela Ullathorne, our Midhurst Guardian. They were deeply impressed by the warm Welsh welcome and the hospitality generally and the visit has created a new bond of friendship. The “Bring and Share” method of catering continues to be a huge success – something to recommend to all our Missions. Thanks to you all in the Rhondda and also to Catrina Morgan, our Abertillery Guardian, for all she did to help, not least in putting up three of the Midhurst folk and giving them a guided tour of Abertillery, Cwmtillery and Six Bells on the following day! Angela says that the Sussex stalwarts learned a lot about life in the Welsh valleys, in many ways so different from the prosperity of Southern England. There was a further Abertillery Mass at Catrina’s on September 10th before the Midhurst group returned home. Bishop Anthony has always been anxious for our “scattered” Faithful to come together in this way; the Chapter prays that this will be the start of lasting bonds.

SAINT WENCESLAUS DAY: |
There was Solemn Mass at the Hampstead Oratory at 7pm, during which Mr. Gerald Wilson of our small Edinburgh Mission was confirmed according to the traditional Roman Pontifical. It was a pleasure to see Gerald again, not least for Dame Della Edling; she and Gerald are old friends. The Veneration of the Ikon of Saint Wenceslaus (Svaty Vaclav) followed the Mass – as did supper!
The Masses at Havlickuv Brod, Chrudim and Bila Hora were well attended, the Feast being an Holyday of Obligation in Bohemia. Please continue your prayers for all our Czech Faithful whose support we treasure.

| SAINT SEBASTIAN’S, SHEPHERDS BUSH |
The last advertised Mass on September 8th was changed to Wednesday 9th at Noon and was “Of Our Lady”. Three of our Holborn people came and were warmly welcomed by Eileen O’Connor and eleven others of the Saint Sebastian congregation who were able to attend. Bishop Anthony tried the newly found train route from Hampstead Heath a great help – and hopes that Eileen and Co will find it equally convenient coming the other way!! The next Shepherds Bush Mass will be on Sunday, October 11th at Noon – Nineteenth after Pentecost, as ever at Goldhawk Road. Thanks so much to Eileen, to Pam and Don Kerridge and all our staunch “W.12” gang. [ps: Low Mass & Benediction at Hampstead at 7pm on October 11th – usual arrangement when the Solemn Mass is elsewhere] |

SAINT MATTHIAS, BARNSLEY CENTRAL: |
We are so pleased to announce that Father Eric Bilton is building up the Mission slowly but surely and now has four regular communicants. His parish visiting is being very well received – and in our Mission territories there is no better way of spreading the traditional Catholic Faith than by old fashioned visiting! Father Eric will be in London with Bishop Anthony on the weekend of October 3rd and 4th and we all look forward to seeing him. |

SAINT CURITAN’S, DUNDEE AND OUR LADY & SAINT PETER AT FORFAR: |
Canon Harry Anson is in regular contact with Bishop Anthony and reports continued excellent congregations at Dundee, that quite Catholic of Scottish cities! Inevitably the work is harder in the small Angus country towns but Father is also holding his own at Forfar and also at Saint Blane’s at Arbroath which has the advantage of its own building.
Even a few Scots Presbyterians have been known to come to Mass – and we welcome them with open arms!!
The Chapter of Advice recently discussed a Visitation to Scotland: Canon Harry is, after all, our Vicar General there. We decided that a Spring 2010 Visit to our Scots Faithful must take precedence, and Father Eric and Dame Della will accompany Bishop Anthony.

| SAINTS TEILO AND PADARN, BRECONSHIRE: |
Regular weekly Masses are offered in our three Brecon Mass centres – Ystradgynlais, which was part of the old County of Brecon and where dear Father Flynn lives, Crickhowell, and Brecon itself. Although the Kalendar always makes mention of one Mass or other in these places, far more Masses are said than are advertised. We thank Father for his unstinting work and in particular Mrs Mabel Jones of Brecon who has become a more-or-less full-time Mission Secretary. Numbers remain good, with an average of thirty at all the advertised Masses. We owe our Brecon folk more publicity! |

| DO PLEASE KEEP THOSE SECOND CLASS STAMPS COMING!! |
They are a source of real income to the ArchConfraternity, helping tremendously with the postal bill for the despatch of the monthly Notes. As we’ve already stressed: many of our older Faithful don’t have access to a computer – and thus to our Web Site – and really do rely on the “old fashioned word” as a vital means of communication. Particular thanks to all who sent stamps during August. Please send a September Donation for St. Michael. Cheques should be made payable to “The Traditional Roman Catholic Church” and sent to Bishop Anthony at the address at the top of the Kalendar or to Mr.Simon Gibbs, our ArchConfraternity Treasurer, at:
Gibbs & Co., Blackwell House, Guildhall Yard, London,EC2V.5AE.
God will bless you. Holy Mass is offered monthly for all our benefactors.

| FEAST OF OUR LADY OF VICTORIES: |
A reminder to all Clergy and Parishes/Missions that the Feast of Our Lady of Victories, Principal Patroness of the ArchConfraternity, is kept on the last Sunday of October, this year Sunday 25th. There will be Pontifical Solemn Mass at Hampstead at NOON and we hope many of our London people in particular, and perhaps a few of you from Sussex, will do your best to attend. Buffet lunch to follow. The Feast of Christ the King, kept on the last October Sunday in the Traditional Rite, will be celebrated as per the new Rite on Sunday, November 22nd, the last Sunday of the Church’s year. It goes without saying that the Solemnity of Our Lady of Victories is of absolute Obligation for all our Faithful!!

| SAINT BENEDICT’S, ABERTILLERY & SIXBELLS: |
Next Mass at Six Bells [Mrs Churchill’s] at 7pm on Tuesday, 13th October, Feast of St. Edward the Confessor. Catrina reported 26 people at the last Abertillery Mass on Saint Cadoc’s Day, Friday, 25th September. A young man who usually attends the local Novus Ordo Mass came for the first time and has asked for instruction in the Old Rite from Father Flynn. Deo Gratias!
