OUR LADY OF PENRHYS, RHONDDA:

We have mentioned before that more Masses occur than those actually listed. There will be Sung Mass on Tuesday, December 1st at 7pm, thanks to Glenys and Dai. This will be followed by supper and discussion with Father Flynn about the forthcoming Christmass programme.
At the last advertised Mass on Friday, 20th November, there was an excellent congregation which included people from all our South Wales/Monmouthshire Faithful. Glenys reported 34 people. As these Notes are compiled there is to be Solemn Mass at Treorchy on Advent Sunday, November 29th and as usual everyone in South Wales has been invited. Glenys sends out her own fortnightly notes with full details of the Masses and events which these main Notes cannot cover. There was also Mass and Benediction at the home of Mrs Eve Talbot, another of our staunch Rhondda folk, on Saturday, November 7th at Noon.  Eve had offered to host a Mass back in the summer and we thank her for her generosity; Mrs Nellie Probert, Eve’s neighbour, drove to Ystradgynlais to collect Father Flynn, and Eve reported 27 people at the Mass at her Llantrisant house. It was the vigil of Remembrance Sunday, so Father Flynn offered a Requiem for the War Dead and gave the absolutions of the Catafalque. Bishop Anthony joins Glenys in thanking Eve for providing us with this second Rhondda “Mass Station”. He also promises to visit you very soon in the new year.

MISSION OF THE INFANT OF PRAGUE AT PRAGUE:

We like to report frequently on the great work of our Czech Faithful to whom we owe a deep, deep debt. Father Zezulek has emailed the following report of his ministry up at Bila Hora (Prague 6!!) and down in the more “inner city” area of Svaty Pankrac. He and Bishop Anthony spoke by phone for nearly two hours in early November! Please keep our Czech stalwarts in your prayers. There are now three Sunday Masses in Prague, all obviously in the Old Rite: a simple Sung Mass in Czech at 9am and Solemn Mass in Latin at Noon. Both Masses are offered in the large and beautiful Oratory which Father and his sister have created in their villa at Bila Hora in the hills above Prague. The villa was returned to the family in the years after the fall of communism. The Oratory was created out of the old drawing room and seats about 80 people. The marble altar was rescued from a reclamation site where artefacts from redundant churches could be found. The third Sunday Mass is a Latin Low Mass down in the poorer district of Svaty Pankrac. A ministry of regular visiting takes place in the many blocks of flats at Sv. Pankrac and now we have an average congregation of 30 people, some young, and nearly all of whom were previously lapsed or completely unchurched. The Sunday Low Mass is at 6pm and there is also Mass at Sv. Pankrac every Wednesday at 7pm, both offered in the chapel created in a derelict shop!     Bohu diky!++
Now that our Holy Orders are accepted by the Vatican, our Czech clergy are initiating talks with the Novus Ordo local clergy, although we must remember that our relationship with the Czech hierarchy has always been good.   We shall keep all our Czech Faithful posted as the talks progress.

THE ORDINATION TO THE DIACONATE OF MR. NICHOLAS RODEN JOHNSON:

This took place at 1pm during Solemn Mass on 22nd November, feast of Christ the King. Dame Della Edling, Chairman of the Chapter of Advice, was the Canonical witness. Other members of the Chapter were present.
Nicholas, in his forties, is currently studying for the Bar. He studied theology for two years at Saint Chad’s College at Durham University and was received into the ArchConfraternity early in the year. Nicholas who lives in Chester, will establish a Mission there, but he is already the Guardian of our Mission of Our Lady of Sorrows at Southport where local Anglo-Catholics were recently deprived of the Tridentine English Missal, many feeling obliged to leave their church. We have offered the Southport Faithful a new home within the ArchConfraternity, and it is for this sound pastoral reason that Deacon Nicholas will be raised to the sacred Priesthood next Spring when our Southport congregation will all be received into the ArchConfraternity. We are glad to say that they will of course have at the heart of their worship the old English Missal.

WORTHING AND MIDHURST:

There will be Solemn Mass at Worthing at 7pm on Wednesday, December 2nd, as usual at Mrs Todd’s; and our now normal Worthing/Midhurst routine continues with Solemn Mass at Midhurst on Thursday, December 3rd again at 7pm, hosted by Mrs Ullathorne. This will be followed by Supper and Meeting when we shall discuss plans for 2010. Hove people obviously invited. At time of writing (24th November), the November Masses have still to take place. We are hoping that the Bring and Buy Sale at Midhurst on Saturday, November 28th which will follow Mass, will bring a substantial increase to funds!
You will see that the advertised November and December Masses are separated by a mere few days, but this is on account of Bishop Anthony’s schedule. There will be a second Midhurst Mass later in December.

The debt of gratitude which we owe to our Worthing and Midhurst people cannot be stressed enough! They in turn want no thanks and say that it is the ArchConfraternity which gives them the Mass of Ages.  +++

DO PLEASE KEEP THOSE SECOND CLASS STAMPS COMING!!

They are a source of real income to the ArchConfraternity, helping tremendously with the postal bill for the despatch of the monthly Notes. As we’ve already stressed: many of our older Faithful don’t have access to a computer – and thus to our Web Site – and really do rely on the “old fashioned word” as a vital means of communication. Particular thanks to all who sent stamps during November.  Please do most kindly send a donation for Christmass. Cheques should be made payable to “The ArchConfraternity of Our Lady of Victories” and sent to Bishop Anthony at the address at the top of the Kalendar  or  to Mr. Simon Gibbs, our ArchConfraternity Treasurer, at:
Gibbs & Co., Blackwell House, Guildhall Yard, London,EC2V.5AE.
God will bless you.    Holy Mass is offered monthly for all our benefactors.

***THE ARCHCONFRATERNITY BANK ACCOUNT:

As you will see above, the name has finally been normalised and all cheques should be made payable to The ArchConfraternity of Our Lady of Victories.
We thank so many of you for your continuing generosity. Please help us to go from strength to strength!

THIRD SUNDAY IN ADVENT (GAUDETE):

This is December 13th when vestments are pink or rose and flowers permitted. The Sunday brings some joyful relief to our Advent spiritual preparation for Christmass and we think with joy of the coming Festival of the Nativity. At Hampstead at 12.30pm (half an hour later than usual) there will be, during Pontifical Solemn Mass, the annual Advent Readings and Devotions which will be compiled by Dame Victoria Carpenter and Mr. Robin Saikia.  Buffet lunch follows. All welcome

For practical reasons it is quite impossible to list them all here. Each Parish & Mission will know of its own arrangements. Do please consult Clergy and Guardians for full information.

HEARTY THANKS TO MRS PEGGY DERWENT:

Peggy, one of our St. Teresa, Southampton stalwarts, has sent a most generous donation to the ArchConfraternity for All Holy Souls. A special Requiem Mass has been offered for the souls of all Peggy’s departed family and loved ones. Thank you for all you do, Peggy.
