a NEW CHANCELLOR FOR THE ARCHCONFRATERNITY: |
In late December 2011 the Chapter of Advice appointed Most Reverend Robert McBride, Bishop of Fotheringhay in the ArchConfraternity, as our new Chancellor. Bishop Robert, one of our two Midlands bishops, has a Law Degree and is thus particularly qualified for this post. The work of the Chancellor includes, amongst other things, the preparation of all Ordination documents and certificates, the composition of any formal letters which the ArchConfraternity might have cause to send, and the guardianship of our canons and precepts.
Bishop Robert was previously Metropolitan of the Ecumenical Society of Saint Augustine, and was received into the ArchConfraternity in 2010. He remains Priest-in-Charge of the Mission of Our Lady of Walsingham at Kettering. We heartily congratulate Bishop Robert on this new appointment. |

SAINT ALOYSIUS GONZAGA, BATTERSEA: |
The listed January Mass was sung at Queenstown Road on Saturday, 14 th , Feast of Saint Hilary, at Noon. With a good contingent of students from Holborn, there were twenty seven at the Mass which was followed by a Bring-and-Share Lunch and a meeting to discuss the New Year plans. We thank Magda for all she does. There was also Solemn Mass at Battersea on Sunday, January 22 nd , Third after Epiphany, at Noon. Mrs O'Connor came from Shepherds Bush with six others from that Mission. Thirty were present; we do hope that this co-operation between members of our various London Missions will continue. There are 2 listed February Masses: the first on 5 th , Septuagesima Sunday at Noon, and the second on Saturday, 18 th , Feast of St. Simeon, at 1pm, which will be followed by the usual lunch and then a meeting of our London students. Dave Callaghan has posted the agendas for this meeting.

HOLY GUARDIAN ANGELS, BORROWSSTOUNNESS AT WEST LOTHIAN: |
Our Faithful in this, one of our most flourishing Missions, send greetings to the whole ArchConfraternity. All of us remember, with true affection, the late Councillors John and Harry Constable, brothers who did so very much to help us at Bo'ness, and to whom we owe an enormous debt of gratitude. John and Harry, with other SNP members of Falkirk Borough Council, were instrumental in providing Father Leslie Saywell, Parish Priest of the Holy Guardian Angels, and the congregation, with a purpose built building situated some fifty yards from the sea front. The church is accessible to all, with a disabled ramp, and some three years back, replaced the older premises which we had in the town centre. The Parish has a flourishing congregation with a daily Mass and Solemn Mass on Sundays at 11am. There is Exposition and Benediction every Friday. Father Leslie and his people maintain a harmonious relationship with the local Novus Ordo Catholic Church, a benefit which they have in common with our Czech brethren! Do please pray for Father Leslie and everyone at Holy Guardian Angels who do so much to bring souls into the gentle fold of the ArchConfraternity. Bishop Anthony will be making a Visitation to all our Scots brethren later in the Spring.

SACRED HEART OF JESUS, WORTHING: |
Marie Todd and our Worthing stalwarts have requested that we report on the work at Worthing, as well as link it to the work at Midhurst – and this we are very happy to do. Rather as at Southport and Rochdale, these Notes have tended, we admit, to present a “joint” report, in the main because of the monthly pattern of linked Masses, Father Flynn serving Southport, immediately followed by Rochdale; and the same with Bishop Anthony at Worthing and then Midhurst – all obviously on account of the travel arrangements! Numbers at Worthing (strictly Worthing!) remain good with an average of twenty – mainly people who feel unable to attend the local Novus Ordo Church of Our Lady of the Angels since its drastic re-ordering a few years back. The January Mass was sung on Friday, 27 th , Feast of St. John Chrysostom when twenty four were present. The Mass was followed by a delicious Bring-and-Share Supper, during which we were able to arrange several of the forthcoming Masses. Bishop Anthony sincerely thanks Marie for her hospitality in putting him up for the night, before driving him over to Midhurst next morning for the Mass there. Since last autumn a group of our Worthing stalwarts (usually a dozen) meet every week on Wednesdays at 7pm for recitation of the Rosary with Litany of the Sacred Heart, or Litany of Our Lady of Victories. Please keep our Worthing Faithful firmly in your prayers. The Mission is particularly dear to Bishop Anthony's heart as it goes back to our earliest days, thirteen years ago, when Masses were regularly offered at the home of the Founder, the late Mrs Jessica Boggis at Tarring, West Worthing. This may sound a little too sentimental, but the reason the Mission was dedicated to the Sacred Heart is that Bishop Anthony found a large pebble in the shape of a perfectly formed heart on Worthing beach. {Jessica+RIP. DO PLEASE KEEP THOSE SECOND CLASS STAMPS COMING!! |
They are a source of real income to the ArchConfraternity, helping tremendously with the postal bill for the despatch of the monthly Notes. As we continue to stress, many of our older Faithful don’t have access to a computer – and thus to our Web Site – and really do rely on the “old fashioned word” as a vital means of communication. Particular thanks to all who sent stamps during January. Do PLEASE send a February Offering for Our Lady of Victories. Cheques should be made payable to “The ArchConfraternity of Our Lady of Victories” and sent to Bishop Anthony at the address at the top of the Kalendar, or to Mr. Simon Gibbs, our ArchConfraternity Treasurer, at:
Gibbs & Co., Blackwell House, Guildhall Yard, London,EC2V.5AE.
God will bless you. Holy Mass is offered monthly for all our benefactors. |

sAINTS TEILO AND PADARN, BRECONSHIRE: |
The January Mass was offered on Wednesday, 18 th at 6pm, again at Mrs Herbert's – renewed thanks, Norah, for all you do. Over thirty were present, including, of course, contingents from our other South Wales Missions. As a side note: some of our English Faithful are surprised that the ArchConfraternity seems to flourish in South Wales and Monmouthshire. The answer lies in the continuing hostility of the Welsh Novus Ordo Hierarchy to the celebration of the Mass of Ages – all in deliberate defiance of the express wishes of the Holy Father; but we, at least, have come to the rescue!!
The Patronal Feast of Saint Teilo falls on Thursday, 9 th February when there will be two Masses: Fr. Flynn's usual morning Mass at Ystradgynlais at 10am, followed by Solemn Mass at Brecon at 7pm, again thanks to Mrs Herbert. We understand that the Breconshire ladies are planning a rather special Celebration Supper to follow Mass! For catering purposes, please indicate that you hope to be present. |

FEBRUARY IS THE MONTH OF OUR LADY OF VICTORIES ... |
even though the actual Solemn Feast of Our Lady of Victories is kept on the last Sunday in October! The reason for this is that October is obviously the month of Our Lady of the Rosary. February, therefore, which celebrates Candlemass - the Purification of our Lady, on 2 nd , has been chosen as the month in which we honour the Patron of the ArchConfraternity. Tuesday, 21 st February is kept as the External Solemnity of Our Lady of Victories, when we all remember the intentions of the ArchConfraternity, especially those of all our Clergy. |

SAINT CURITAN'S, DUNDEE: |
Canon Anson's great endeavours up at Angus continue at Arbroath and at Forfar. Meanwhile at neighbouring Dundee the pattern of two Friday Masses is maintained with very well attended congregations on two sites. The winter weather so far has been kind and has enabled Canon Anson to keep up the necessary stint of travelling! Most of you reading these Notes will not know Angus, one of the most beautiful counties in Scotland. Arrangements there must be “put on hold” when the blizzards come!! |

SAINT BENEDICT, ABERTILLERY & SIX BELLS: |
The January Mass on Saturday, 14 th was hosted by Mrs Churchill who reported twenty three present, including a car-full from Monmouth. During lunch some dates were fixed for forthcoming Masses in 2012. Catrina formally thanked Mrs Churchill for all she does. The February Mass was arranged for Thursday, 23 rd , day after Ash Wednesday, at Catrina's. The annual ArchConfraternity Dispensation of permitting the Imposition of Ashes immediately following the day itself again applies (as this year it does also at Worthing). Sung Mass will be at 7pm, followed by a Lenten Supper. |
