A Lenten Meditation

We may have some years still of temptation and buffeting and sorrow and warfare – and of the Cross on earth. These things may be. Storms upon the lake, clouds upon the mountain – they are our earthly lot!
What matter?
If we be children of the Resurrection, heaven is ours.
And heaven is near.
We know not how long or how soon our day may be.

(Cardinal Manning)

Bishop Anthony writes: Yes! We know neither the day nor the hour of our departing from this world!
Let us all resolve this Lent to do good to our neighbour. Every little work of charity covers a multitude
of all our many sins! Abstinence without Charity is absolutely pointless!

Let us pray:

We pray Thee, O Eternal GOD, by the precious blood of Thy Son, the costly ransome paid for our salvation,
By that wondrous and transcendent charity which moved Him so to love us wretched and unworthy beings
That He didst wash away our sins in His blood:
Teach us by the Holy Ghost Thy ways of peace and give us such constant Charity, Faith and Hope
That whatever we say or think or do may please Thee and advance the welfare of our poor souls!
Through the same JESUS CHRIST, our Lord.

+Amen+

And a passing thought:

Our character is our will; for what we will we are!
