DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS FOR JUNE  2007.

+Thoughts for the Month in which we worship the Sacred and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus+

JESUS,in Thy dear Sacrament Thy cross I cannot see:
But the Crucified is offered here,  And He was slain for me.

JESUS,in Thy dear Sacrament Thy flesh I cannot see:
But that flesh is given to be our Food,  And it was scourged for me.

JESUS,in Thy dear Sacrament Thy blood I cannot see:
But the Chalice glows with those red drops, On Calvary shed for me.

JESUS,in Thy dear Sacrament Thy face I cannot see:
But angels here behold the brow, thorn-crowned for love of me.

JESUS,in Thy dear Sacrament Thy Heart I cannot see:
But that fiery Heart is prisoned here, And it was pierced for me.

JESUS,in Thy dear Sacrament Thy Godhead none may see:
BUT THOU ART PRESENT,GOD AND MAN, IN THY SACRAMENT WITH ME!

Bishop Anthony writes: How much and how poignantly do some of our traditional Catholic hymns teach us our Faith and remind us of our Catholic obligation! The well-loved hymn above is calling us to the Altar – to adore CHRIST at every Mass as we offer His Body and Blood to the Father, and then in silence to adore Him in the Tabernacle where he deigns to dwell silently in His Divine Sacrament amongst us: all of us who are sinful people. Every Mass is of course a re-enactment of the one Sacrifice that JESUS made for us on Calvary. We know this because He said to the apostles: “This is My Body which is given for you.” But that sacred Body is also our spiritual food, sacred nourishment, leading us on and on towards our eternal destiny – CHRIST Himself.   As the hymn itself says: “That flesh is given to be our Food.” JESUS in His unspeakable love came to dwell among us,born as man.The Eucharist is a sign that He Who is true God came to share his own creation – ourselves. “He who eats My Body and drinks My Blood has eternal Life.” So Christ in His Love, before returning to the Father, not only died for us but left us all that He had to leave: HIMSELF ! As we are flesh, blood and spirit,so JESUS too,in His manhood, was flesh, blood and spirit. By receiving Him in Holy Communion, we partake of His own Godhead, that is if we love Him and trust in Him,in the same way that He chose to humble Himself and share in our humanity. His flesh was given,in agony but with burning love, for our Redemption. That flesh is our nourishment. Yes,flesh! Anathema to those who know not the Living Christ! But Salvation to us sinners who believe! “Whoever eats this bread will live eternally”    +

Let us pray: O GOD,Thy mercy poureth upon us infinite treasures in Thy Son’s Sacred and Eucharistic Heart, that Heart wounded by our sins:grant,we beseech Thee, that we may offer Him devout homage,

loving service and true sorrow for having offended Him. Through the same Christ, our Lord. +Amen+
